What’s Next for RIM & their BlackBerry?

So, it seams that RIMs BlackBerry 10 platform has not helped their stick price.

What should RIM do? Can it’s BlackBerry 10 (a first gen platform) compete with the 5th gen iPhone?

I think not. It’s taken MS 2 years with their Windows Phone 7 platform to reach 90k apps and they still haven’t reached any significant market percentage.

Is it because WP7 sucks? Nope, it is arguably one of the best mobile operating systems on the market. It’s easy to use, integrates well on Windows or Mac, has the best virtual keyboard of any phone, etc, etc.

So why then could RIM do with BlackBerry 10 that MS has been working on for 2 years?

In my opinion, there are only two strengths that RIM has.
1. Best Physical Keyboard/Thumboard
2. BlackBerry Messenger

Are others copying the BBM service, yep. Both Apple and MS have a BBM type service.

So that leaves they keyboard. Can other companies make phones with great keyboards? Sure, but people KNOW that BlackBerry makes the best. If RIM makes a phone with a great keyboard they will have customers.

That said, they need to grow their business back to a profitable business.

RIM should join forces with Microsoft and create the best Windows Phones with the best keyboards.

Throw in BBM for WP and work with MS to bundle work together to grow the business market for smartphone.
